The Refinery at Domino
High-density event connectivity for a high-fashion show — the first event ever held at Brooklyn's newly converted Domino Sugar refinery.
The challenge
The Refinery at Domino had just opened as a 460,000 square-foot event space inside the shell of the historic sugar refinery. Being the first event in a brand-new venue meant no prior deployment to learn from and no known RF baseline — the building had never carried an event network before. A high-fashion brand was hosting, press and production needed bandwidth independent of guest traffic, and an industry-wide chip shortage was constraining equipment lead times.
Our approach
We designed coverage from a wireless plan rather than guesswork, landing on 22 access points across four floors. The full stack — gateway, PoE switching and power distribution — was cloud-managed and configured before it left our workshop, so equipment arrived ready to mount instead of needing setup under time pressure. Traffic was segmented so production, press and guest access could not compete for capacity, and redundancy was designed in from the start: gigabit fixed wireless as primary with a satellite path standing by.
The result
The show ran without a connectivity incident. During the event the primary circuit failed over to the backup — and nobody noticed at the time, which is precisely what redundancy is for. The client booked two further events off the back of it, and cloud management meant diagnostics were handled remotely rather than by reaching a rack mid-show.
